Utilizing the Corbett targeted coin test, a patient with a mildly stiff thumb IP joint and hypersensitive pulp became aware through the practice that her habitual thumb IP hyperextension was restricting her dexterity. It became clear to the patient that with her available active thumb IP motion she could intentionally flex her thumb IP to “fish out”

the coins held in the palm of her hand. Experiencing her limitations in an observable way enabled the patient to clearly understand how to move to alleviate the restriction.

Engagement with the Corbett Targeted Coin test became a fruitful addition to her home practice.

We have used the Corbett Targeted Coin Test for evaluation with results that motivate patients.  A great advantage is for activating differential glide and is useful for those

with intrinsic tightness or flexor tendon repairs. Patients are easily engaged and therapists

get more feedback for a wrist evaluation with this tool.

When I saw the Corbett Targeted Coin Test at the ASHT conference in Washington DC

I knew I wanted it for my hand clinic. No more pegs, wooden blocks or marbles to evaluate hand coordination. This task makes sense to patients in their real life, everyone handles change! I use this to measure pre-op and post-op changes in patients undergoing CMC arthroplasty as an objective measure for insurance companies, surgeons and the patient themselves. I am currently working on using the CTCT to capture data for a clinical research study with OTD candidates.

The synchronized motion between the index finger and the thumb for retrieval and positioning to insert the penny is challenging, and reflective of every day.

Just follow the instructions! It’s a great testing tool as well as a clever and challenging work out for the wrist.

I wanted to recommend the Corbett Targeted Coin Test as an effective and easy to use system to measure manipulation. Both therapists and patients can see improvements in a short amount of time. Patients actually get to see their hand function and time it takes to complete the task, improve even in one session. It gives the patient's confidence in their hand function that they might not even have attempted outside the clinic.

We use it in the clinic for all patients during their initial eval and every few weeks as their function improves. The patients enjoy getting timed and seeing their improvements. We need more equipment like the CTCT that we can use for testing as well as treatment.

Thanks for a great tool for the clinic!

Using the targeted coin test helped me to regain dexterity and coordination in my fingers as I rehabilitated from a broken arm and dislocated wrist. It made everyday activities like feeding a parking meter, while holding a handful of coins, easier to do. Plus, it was fun to do for someone with a competitive streak like I have!

After an injury to my little finger on my right hand, it was difficult holding small objects. The Targeted Coin Test helped me gain full use in my hand.
